Composite
Depth of Field and Focus
For this assignment I combined multiply pictures to create one cohesive composited image. For the pictures of the my sister she was usually the center focus of the image with a slightly blurred background. Most of these pictures had a medium to shallow depth of field. However the main background picture and the pictures I toke in the field I used a deep depth of field. In these landscape pictures everything came out clear. For the flowery skyline I toke those pictures really close up. All of these microscopic photos came out very sharp. So those pictures had a deep depth of field as well. The entire collage, with all the pictures together, came out sharp and in focus.
Exposure
Exposure is the amount of light that has exposed the images sensor. All of my pictures were taken on an auto mode exposure. Overall I like the exposure that my pictures have. I think that they have a good balance of light and depth of field. Next time I think I will try and change the exposure to create a different picture and make my pictures better.
Lighting
The lighting in my pictures was different throughout. On all my pictures I used natural lighting and was mostly back lighting. Since I toke some of my pictures out side at the beginning of the day those ones were exposed to a lot more light then some of the ones I toke in the field. In the field pictures their were more clouds blocking the natural light. This gave a darker shadow to those pictures rather then the ones I toke earlier. To even the balance of light I had to play around in photo shop to darken and lighten different pictures. Overall I like how the lighting was in my picture.
Lines
I tried to use lines to the best of my ability when taking these pictures. My main line in the background picture would be the horizon line. This the line splitting the area of the trees and the field with the sky. I think this line improves the image because it helps focus on the center image of the girl. However, it also helps the reader find the flowers in the sky.
Color
The coloring in my picture vary through out the image. For example, in the sky with the flowers there is muted bright shades of pinks, purples, yellows, and greens. These vibrant colors show through in the girls skirt and her outfit. I like also like the vibrance that it pops on the muted background on the field. I think that this makes the pictures interesting and improves the overall look.
Composition
When taking the pictures on the flowers, the composition was filling the frame with the image, since these images were microscopic. Most of the images separately that I toke of the girl were all centered. However in the background image I used the rule of thirds putting the girl on the right side of the image. Looking at the composite as a whole I like how i used rule of thirds by putting all the girls leading up on the left side. I find it interesting that they seem to go back farther each time. Almost as if the girl is walking back wards towards the field.
Depth of Field and Focus
ReplyDeleteYour picture has lots of depth of field. I think this helps to portray your subject slowly moving to the back of the picture. This makes it look more realistic with her being in focus and in the background. I also liked how you made her feet blend into the corn that is also in focus.
Exposure
The exposure of the photo is pretty good. The only thing that I would fix would be the exposure of the original picture. It looks like it is slightly under exposed. This may need a tripod, but I think in the end it would be worth it. You could also make a slightly larger aperture, which would make the background a little more out of focus.
Lighting
It looks to me like you used natural light. I think this went along well with your picture. I think it made the picture look nice because if it were A sunny day you would get a different feel of what is going on. This picture gives me the mysterious experience. Without the clouds the feel of the picture would be different.
LINES
In this picture I see 3 main lines. One is the horizon line; I think this line adds to the piece by separating the corn and the people from the sky and flowers. Another line is the line the subject is in. This adds to the picture because it looks like the subject is slowly turning towards the flowers. Lastly I think the flowers create lines.
COLORS / VALUE
IN this picture a realistic color value is used. The only part that seems like it could be slightly unrealistic would be the flowers in the top. It seems that the contrast has been heightened. Also the colors in the skirt have lots of contrast. Over all the colors blend together well.
COMPOSITION
In this photo there is mostly the rule of thirds. This occurs in the top 1/3 of the photo. This helps make the picture more visually appealing. The like is made of dark colors which makes the line more prominent. Over all this is a great photo, and has great quality.
Hi Rachel! I decided to comment on yours because I can't just comment on the Emily's for the entire trimester :) Here goes!
ReplyDeleteI love how the depth of field and focus are used in this composite photo. The girl in the bottom left corner is present in the shallow depth and is fully visible. In the broad depth of field there is the girl in the back as well as the sky and the trees. I really like how the flowers in the sky appear to be a part of it and look like they are in the background as well. I think it would make the photo even cooler if you covered the entire sky with the flowers rather than leaving parts uncovered.
In this photo it looks as though it may be a little bit underexposed. The darker exposure gives the photo a mood which I like. It appears that the exposure on the girl's shirts are not all the same, which I wouldn't even know how to fix myself but oh well. It would be really sweet if you could get the girl in the front's shirt to be the lightest and have them get closer to the darker exposure of the girl in the original photo's shirt in the back. Overall I like the darker mood of the photo.
Not that this question is at all similar to the last one, but it seems like all natural lighting was used. I can't tell what sort of lighting was used for the flowers, but it seems that natural light was used there as well. Like I said on the last one, it would be cooler if the subject in the photo got gradually closer to the color of the original photo which could be done in photoshop- I assume. The natural light is coming from the cloudy sky which diffuses the sun and makes the sunlight not as harsh as it sometimes can be.
I really like the lines used in this photo. The girl moving slightly towards the middle guides the eye towards the detail in the field as well as the horizon. The horizon is a little bit slanted which I think adds a bit of character to the photo. The trees growing as they move right bring attention to the girl in the middle which also makes the subject more interesting. Overall I think the lines in the photo bring attention to the important parts as well as the detail in the background.
The color scheme in the photo is realistic. It is possible that the color was tinted a little bit towards the red spectrum, however I think it just appears that way because of all the red present in the photo. I think it is a good thing that it is left realistic because the subject in the photo is unrealistic. The multiple subjects show a passing of time (at least thats how it appears to me) and if the color was really funny that would offset the realism too much.
The only rule I can see in this photo is a slight use of the rule of thirds. I see this in the horizon which lies near the top third horizontal line. It is clear that the golden ratio is not used (which is by no means a bad thing, it just isn't haha). None of the other lines in the photo are on a line of thirds or in the spiral of the golden ratio. This is an example that composition rules are only guidelines, and good photos can result when they are not followed.
That is all, enjoy.

ps, I like your header photo. made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteDepth of Field: when Rachel took the picture of her sister (the subject) she used a medium depth of filed. With that, she was completely in focus. her flowers on the skyline were taken with a deep depth of field. by using a deep depth of field the flowers were sharp. When she combined those two elements along with the background, which also has a deep depth of field, creates a sharp, detailed image.
ReplyDeleteExposure: All of her pictures were taken with her camera set on automatic. Therefore her exposures were correct for each photo. The overall picture was a little bit dark, but it adds to the effect created in the picture. I would’ve however liked to see how the picture would’ve been lighter. I don’t think its dark because the exposure was wrong, it was caused the editing done in photoshop.
Lighting: the lighting in all of her individual pictures were different. She took each picture at different times of the day, which gave her different lighting. She did use all natural light however since all of her pictures were taken outdoors. But when editing in photoshop she did a good job of trying to get the darkness/lightness of the photos to match or at least look like they belong.
Lines: Instantly when looking at the picture I see two main lines. I first see the lines of the girls in the field. They curve, which is appealing to the eye. The second line I see is the trees in the background. They help keep you’re eyes focused on the subject as you follow along that line.
Colors: I really like Rachels usage of color. She used a realistic color scheme. I like how her background doesn’t have a lot of colors that pop, but she layerd pictures that were very bright. The usage of the reds and pinks adds great contrast to the picture.
Composition: in her photo I can see some use of the rule of thirds. I can see how one of the girls would be on one of the horizontal line of thirds. Also the horizon somewhat lays on the top vertical line.
